Iznik pottery had its heyday in the 16th century and was known for being highly decorated. Originating in Southern Anatolia (modern-day Turkey), Iznik tiles are some of the most creative in the world and adorn the bathroom of this exceptional suite, which was lovingly reinvented by the eminent ceramics expert, Jamal Jaber.
Inspired by the Ottoman architecture that is so prevalent in Islamic culture, this suite exhibits beautiful woodwork that has been kept in the original yellow and blue colours with opulent furnishings and a lavish bathroom to complete the Turkish theme.
The Hittite people were Indo-European, centred in Anatolia and Northern Syria between 1650-1180 B.C. Hittite Kings had absolute power and were viewed as deputies of God, at death becoming Gods themselves. Their society was feudal and agrarian, where iron-working technology was developed. Like its strong, warrior heritage, this grand suite is boldly decorated and includes sculptures of lions and traditional iron-work.
The Mansouriya Palace Hotel specialises in traditional home-cooked Aleppine cuisine which combines the eclectic ingredients and traditions from centuries of influences: Arabic, Greek, Armenian, Turkish and Jewish.
The main restaurant is beneath vaulted ceilings in the former cellar where there is still evidence of an ancient well. Historically, it was used to keep the food cool after it had been covered in salt or oil to preserve it. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served here, but the room can be hired for private parties or functions.
Lunch or any other dining is available at your convenience on the terrace or in the courtyard. The menu is changed daily and ingredients are sourced from the local markets. The chef would be delighted to take special requests and create bespoke dishes based on the local produce of that day.
Cookery television shows have been filmed in the renowned kitchens of The Mansouriya Palace Hotel and guests are welcome to receive cooking lessons or just observe the ancient traditions of Syrian cuisine in practice.
The Turkish and Middle Eastern tradition of hammam body scrubbing is practised in the Spa. The Mansouriya Palace Hotel also boasts the largest private Jacuzzi in Syria and offers rejuvenating or relaxing massages to complete the cleansing of body and mind.
The Grand Chamber, or Ka’a, is an elegant venue for private parties, wedding receptions or even a location for lectures and seminars. This reception room is the crowning glory of the palace. It has capacity for up to 60 people for either dining or seating. The restaurant and individual suites can also be hired for private parties.
